Veronica Barbato (1981, Caserta) vive e lavora a Lugano. Artista visiva, la sua pratica intreccia fotografia, teatro, performance e street art, dando forma a una poetica urbana che unisce sguardo e presenza, corpo e spazio, arte e vita. L’imperfezione è l’origine della sua espressione artistica.
Dopo un Master in Fotografia con Mustafa Sabbagh presso lo Spazio Labó di Bologna, la sua ricerca si sviluppa attraverso azioni site-specific, incursioni in luoghi in trasformazione — come ville in ristrutturazione — e interventi performativi nello spazio pubblico.
Nel 2022 pubblica il libro d’artista Tua Sorella, edito da Artphilein (Lugano) e 89books (Palermo), vincitore di prestigiosi riconoscimenti internazionali come il Premio Marco Bastinelli 2025 (Roma); il Premio Off-The-Wall, ideato e curato da Erik Kessels in occasione del MIA Photo Fair di Milano; il Premio Arts Libris (Barcellona).
Ha esposto in festival, gallerie, spazi indipendenti e centri culturali in Italia e all’estero, consolidando una presenza riconoscibile nel panorama dell’arte contemporanea. I suoi lavori sono apparsi su riviste di settore come The Photographer, Fisheye, Discarded, CTypeMag, e su media generalisti come RSI Cult Plus, Corriere del Ticino e Ticino Magazine.
È ideatrice e curatrice di mostre indipendenti e progetti collettivi con artisti italiani e internazionali, portando l’arte in luoghi non convenzionali e agendo sulla soglia tra gesto intimo e dimensione pubblica.
La fotografia attraversa gran parte del suo lavoro, ma è il teatro — insieme alla danza — ad aver forgiato la sua formazione e il suo sguardo. Dal teatro ha ereditato la centralità del corpo, dell’azione e della presenza: elementi chiave della sua pratica artistica, soprattutto nelle azioni urbane.
She lives and works in Lugano. A visual artist, her practice weaves together photography, theatre, performance, and street art, shaping an urban poetics that connects gaze and presence, body and space, art and life. Imperfection lies at the core of her artistic expression.
After completing a Master’s degree in Photography with Mustafa Sabbagh at Spazio Labó in Bologna, her research has developed through site-specific actions, interventions in spaces undergoing transformation—such as houses under renovation—and performative incursions into the public realm.
In 2022, she published the artist’s book Tua Sorella, co-published by Artphilein (Lugano) and 89books (Palermo). The book received prestigious international recognition, including the Marco Bastinelli Award 2025 (Rome); the Off-The-Wall Award, conceived and curated by Erik Kessels on the occasion of MIA Photo Fair in Milan; and the Arts Libris Award (Barcelona).
She has exhibited at festivals, galleries, independent spaces, and cultural institutions in Italy and abroad, establishing a distinctive presence within the contemporary art scene. Her work has been featured in specialist publications such as The Photographer, Fisheye, Discarded, and CTypeMag, as well as in mainstream media including RSI Cult Plus, Corriere del Ticino, and Ticino Magazine.
She is also the initiator and curator of independent exhibitions and collective projects with Italian and international artists, bringing art into non-conventional spaces and operating at the threshold between intimate gesture and public dimension.
Photography runs through much of her work, yet it is theatre—together with dance—that has shaped her training and perspective. From theatre, she has inherited the centrality of the body, action, and presence: key elements of her artistic practice, particularly in urban interventions.
